Lingering snow in Nova Scotia has migratory American robins scrambling for food. Apples for robins to the rescue, for a few!
Migratory birds are returning to Nova Scotia in droves and finding much of the province still blanketed with snow. A colleague of Vilis’s at Dalhousie University mentioned that she has hundreds of American robins on her property and finds new dead birds every day – starved. Even as I write this post, I see a dozen robins in my backyard, inspecting a few patches of exposed grass in a snow-cleared area. This morning, I chopped a half dozen apples for robins and set them out on the snow in my yard. And yes, the robins did find the apples!
