Today, needing an escape from the confinement of writing at a desk, I interspersed words with hunts for autumn colour. I drove north to Tatamagouche and along the shore of the Northumberland Strait to the village of Wallace for my piano lesson, drinking in scenes of vivid foliage. On my return home, Pepper and I walked a 5-kilometre loop that led us past birches flaunting dresses of yellow, bracken forming crinolines of amber, and maples elegant in gowns of pink and orange, gold and purple. In the clearing of an abandoned homestead, Japanese knotweed bore ruffles of bright yellow and green. All were dressed in the season’s haute couture. Enjoy!
