Like a gift from Fantasyland, the morning sky tossed up an arc of gold and pink fading into periwinkle cloud. In the dimness below it, maples cloaked with red and yellow leaves, from which chlorophyll had already been retrieved, lay in wait for sunlight to flash their vivid beauty across the landscape. My flowerbeds bore the sunrise like a crown, their own dresses muted shades of green touched by pale pink. It was a sunrise fit to pair with the round face of the hunter’s moon that will flash its own brilliance across the land tonight.
